What We Do
Recladding & Exterior Repair Services
From minor weatherboard repairs to full monolithic recladding — Keen Builders assesses the full scope of damage and delivers a complete solution that addresses both the exterior cladding and the underlying structure.
Weatherboard Recladding
Full weatherboard replacement — removing failed or rotted cladding, repairing the underlying structure and framing, installing new building wrap and replacing with quality weatherboard. Available in timber or fibre cement.
Monolithic Recladding
Monolithic (plaster) cladding systems were widely used in NZ homes built in the 1990s and are a known source of weathertightness failures. We carry out both full reclads and targeted repairs — assessing moisture damage before recommending the right solution.
Leaky Home Repairs
Leaky homes require more than just new cladding — the damage is often structural. We repair both the weathertightness and the underlying structure, replacing rotted framing, noggings and joists as required.
Targeted Repairs & Upgrades
Not all homes need a full reclad. We carry out targeted repairs to specific areas — window surrounds, junctions, flashings and isolated damage — to extend the life of your cladding without a full replacement.
Window & Door Joinery Upgrades
Failed joinery is a primary cause of water ingress in older NZ homes. We replace failed aluminium joinery as part of a recladding project — improving weathertightness and thermal performance.
Code Compliance & Documentation
All recladding work is documented with Records of Work from our Licensed Building Practitioner — essential for your property records and any future sale or refinancing.
Warning Signs
Does Your Home Need Recladding?
Many NZ homeowners don't realise their cladding is failing until serious structural damage has occurred. Here are the key warning signs to look for.
Cracking or lifting cladding
Cracks in plaster or lifting weatherboard joints allow water to penetrate — often causing damage long before it's visible inside.
Staining or discolouration
Brown or black staining around windows, doors or roof junctions is a sign of water ingress and potential rot.
Soft or spongy walls
Walls that feel soft when pressed indicate moisture has penetrated the framing — structural damage is likely.
Failed flashings or sealants
Cracked, missing or poorly installed flashings around windows and penetrations are a primary entry point for water.
Musty smell inside
A persistent musty smell inside the home often indicates moisture trapped in the wall cavity — even without visible damage.
1990s monolithic cladding
If your home was built between 1988 and 2004 with plaster cladding, have it assessed — these homes are at high risk of weathertightness issues.
How We Work
Our Recladding Process
Free Site Assessment
We visit your property, assess the cladding condition, check for moisture damage and give you an honest recommendation — full reclad or targeted repairs.
Scope & Fixed-Price Quote
We document the full scope of works including structural repairs, building wrap, cladding, joinery and finishing — and provide a clear fixed-price quote.
Strip & Assess
Once the old cladding is removed, we fully assess the framing and structure for moisture damage — any rotted timber is replaced before recladding begins.
Structure & Building Wrap
Structural repairs are completed, new building wrap is installed and all flashings are detailed correctly before any cladding goes on.
Cladding, Joinery & Finishing
New cladding is installed, joinery replaced if required and all finishing completed — including painting, sealing and final inspection.
Documentation & Handover
Records of Work provided by our LBP — covering all restricted building work for your property records.
